New Year’s Eve, 2012.
The last evening of the year. I
am in Salt Lake, I arrived home yesterday from Palm Desert. The Lovely Sharon is in Palm Desert. I had pancakes for breakfast at IHOP, went to
the library and visited the grandkids. The rest of the day I have been watching
movies.
I had a bowl of chowder and some crab for dinner. I opened a bottle of wine and plan to drink
the entire bottle tonight. I will just
sip it over several hours and then head to bed. I am watching the 1936 film classic
“After the Thin Man” with William Powell and Myrna Loy. I have seen the movie
many times over the years but I love the Thin Man movies with Nick and Nora and
their Wired Haired Fox Terrier, Asta.
Nick and Nora arrive home in San Francisco expecting a quiet New Year’s
Eve in their home and the place full of people having a party.
A 27 year old Jimmy Stewart is in the movie. I love this movie. It has some great scenery
of 1936 San Francisco.
They are wearing white ties and tails at a family
party. I have never worn white tie and
tails. Maybe one day before I die I will
do it. In a couple of hours I plan to
call the Lovely Sharon and toast the New Year with her. Maybe I will imagine I
am wearing white tie and tails and her in a sparkling 1930’s evening dress. We
will hold our glasses up and toast each other with an imaginary Auld Lang Syne
playing in the background.
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to
mind ?
Should old
acquaintance be forgot,
and old lang syne ?
For auld lang syne, my
dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of
kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
And surely you’ll buy your pint cup !
and surely I’ll buy
mine !
And we'll take a cup
o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of
kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
